Lug Detachment Issue

Hey all,

I have been having an issue with an FEA I'm running for a lifting beam. I'm not very experienced with contatcs and I think I may have a contact issue, any help would be greatly appreciated.

For some reason, one of my lifting lugs is detaching from my lifting beam during simulation while the other isn't. Both have the same load case and are made from the same material, have the same contact and I cannot figure out why this isn't working.

Many thanks,

Simeon

Hello @12521504XJQK
It’s likely that Bolt Connectors (or Rigid Body Connectors) are being applied to the same face or edge that’s also selected for a constraint. A possible workaround is to switch to the Simplify workspace and split the face around the bolt holes.

Also make sure to add mesh control to refine the mesh near the Connectors.

let me know if this works.

This usually happens when the contact definitions aren’t perfectly identicale, ven small differences in contact type, mesh refinement, or tolerance can make one lug behave differently. Double-check that both lugs have the same contact stiffness, surface assignment, and that the mesh is fine enough around both. Sometimes just slightly refining the mesh or adjusting the contact offset fixes it.

Hi @oliviagrace4990 ,

We don’t need to define additional contacts or contact sets since a bolt connection has already been defined between the two components. I agree that the mesh needs to be refined—especially around the bolt connector area, where applying mesh controls would be beneficial.
