Join and lock align

Hi Guys; hope you can help!

I have a project where the dimensions will change, but the design will remain the same.  As such I'm trying to keep everything so that I can easily change my user parameters to quickly change details in the design.  I have run into this issue

I have 3 components (see picture) and want to Join Component 3 to the other 2 and align it to the bottom.  I know how to do this fairly easily; I make a Join so Component 2 aligns at the bottom of Component 3 and then using "Offset Y" click the bottom face of Component 1 and Job Done

However, if I change the height of Component 1, then  it makes no effect on Component 3

What is the best practice in this scenario?

Can you share your model? (export as a .f3d file and attach to your next post)

How if you create a base dummy?

Hi,

The concept by @wersy  also works without dummy

It's easier to do designs like this that are robustly parametric using a top down, skeleton sketch approach.  I would suggest retooling your general approach to design. see attached.-

Thanks - will look at this, and agree it looks like the best approach. Learned a couple of new things nonetheless 🙂
