Issue with new version and Space Navigator on Mac

I’ve seen an odd issue with the new version, and thought I would see if others have seen the same.

In Sculpt (direct modeling) when I select Edit Form and make an edit, as soon as I use my Space Navigator to change the view, all the lines and points disappear and I’m left with nothing to edit. Nothing T-spline related is selectable. Sometimes they come back in a moment, other times I can only get an editable form back if I exit the tool and return to the home view using the view cube. This only happens when I use the Space Navigator, not using the view cube.

I tried to make a movie, but I can’t seem to get Screencast to work- is there a new version? And when I try to take a screenshot, the problem fixes itself.

Are you using the 10.2.2 version of the driver for the Space Navigator?

Thanks,

Hi Nathan,

I was using 10.2.1, but I upgraded the driver to 10.2.2 and the issue remains consistent. As soon as I use the Space Navigator, all the lines and points, including currently active edit manipulators, disappear. Changing with the view cube brings them back, usually.

Ron, Nathan,

Went into sculpt mode, created box, then modified form....had no problems with the view. Computer is an iMac Retina running 10.10.3; 3D mouse is a SpacePilot Pro running 3DXware 10.2.1. Tried changing view both with puck and with buttons without any issues. If you need me to try something specific in sculpt mode, let me know.

Oops, forgot to mention this is with the latest update as well (June 20).

OK, that's interesting. Only difference I see is the fact that I'm in a previous version file rather than a new one, and I'm using the plain vanilla Space Navigator. It's been consistent with me after restarts. T-spine shape turns into a featureless blob. Kinda busy with other things now, but I will try experimenting later.

Version 2.0 for Screencast has been realease (May 12).

You may download the DMG file for version at the below link.

For newer versions of Screencasts, there is a Check for Update command that may be easier than manually updating.

If you get a chance, I'm interested in seeing a Screencast recording of the issue you are seeing while using the Space Navigator in the Sculpt Environment. Please keep us posted on your progress.

Thanks,

I had the latest version of Screencast, I think that I probably had not gone through turning on accessibility options since installing the new version and that was causing it not to offer recording options. It works now. Here is a screencast of the issue. In this instance the editability returns fairly quickly. In more complex models I see it not coming back at all unless I use the view cube.

Thank you for posting the screencast.

I note that when panning/orbiting a model that the visible edges are re-drawn after the model stops moving.

I have a couple of questions:

1. Do you have anti-alising enabled in the Effects (navigation panel)?

2. Is your hand resting on the navigation mouse? Is there any slight bias in the mouse, or "drift" that may give Fusion 360 the signal that it is still moving?  Perhaps the settings are set to a high sensitivity or the mouse may need to be re-calibrated? I think the way to do this is open the System Preferences, click on the 3Dconnexion Preference Panel, and then click on the Calibrate button.

I hope this suggestions helps. Looking forward to your reply.

Thanks,

Nathan,

I have all effects off except ground plane.

In the Screencast the edibility returns fairly quickly. That was not the case when I first tried this, but that was probably with a T-spline body that had not been updated. What I can now say is that with new bodies created in this version of Fusion, I have not seen this same behavior.  So maybe this was an artifact of opening an older file that had a lot of T-spline bodies in it. I think I have only seen this if the original body was created before the release. More complex bodies gave more delay or locked up until using the view cube.

To answer your other question, I do tend to keep my hand on the Space Navigator, but this was happening- several minutes of no editability- even when I ceased input entirely, hands off everything. Editability returned as soon as I used the View Cube. Space Navigator is set to about as slow as it will go.

But this doesn’t seem to be an issue now with newly created bodies, and it doesn’t seem to have bothered anyone else, so no worries.

Thanks for the update! If you save the older sculpt bodies, it should prompt you to update the bodies. Does that also help to resolve it? Or does the issue still occur after the sculpt bodies have migrated to the new version?

Thank in advance for you help with this one. I just want to make sure I fully understand!

Cheers,

I have seen a delay with updated bodies, but zero issues with bodies created in the new version. I'll try opening some old files when I get a chance.
