Increase length of simulation?

HI,

I'm designing a trebuchet at the moment, and I need to do some stress analysis on the swing arm. My question is: how can you increase the length of time the simulation lasts for? With my current simulation, the arm only rotates by about 5 degrees before stopping.

Secondary, less important question: would it be possible to incorporate a sling/string system to demonstrate the motion of the softer parts as well as the frame?

Thanks in advance for any answers

Hi @Anonymous,

That is really cool that you are analyzing a trebuchet, I always wanted to build one in college! Simulation in Fusion is limited linear static analyses, so we can't have large motion/displacements or transient effects in the model. If you're in the Simulation environment I suspect the deformation scale could be exaggerating the displacement, showing larger displacements than are actually occurring but the numerical displacements will be low. Just because Fusion only has linear analysis types doesn't mean that we can't analyze your trebuchet arm though! Using a bit of math and kinematics I think you should be able determine when the loads on the arm would be the highest. Using these loads you should be able to run a stress analysis to understand how the arm would behave under loading.

Regards,

Andrew
