Mirrored parts not showing, names changing

I am working on my first real project, it is a work bench assembled with tressel nuts and bolts.  I have assembled half of the table base using Rigid Joints.  I completed the second half of the table base using 2 Mirror Components commands.  On the first command all of the selected components were created.  On the second mirror command some of the components selected did not get mirrored.  I can see them in the preview but they are  not in the created state.

My second issue is when a component is mirrored its part name changes, the extension of (Mirror) is added to the part name.  This becomes an issue if I want to change the part name, and when I build a BOM.  Because the name is different a change to the original is not propagated to the (mirror)ed part.  In BOMs the parts are list and counted as separate parts.

Is there a way to fix these two issues with mirrored components?

Mirrored components are unique on purpose.  one neat aspect of this is that changes made after the mirror do NOT propagate to both parts.  Changes made before DO propagate to both parts.

Think of a motorcycle swing arm that you need to add a mounting feature to one side.

For your issue I would suggest using copy and paste instead of mirror  with the exception of the leg.  I would also suggest using a sub assembly.  I personally don't use a lot of hardware in my designs but I made a component for it here.   In it I would put another assembly of nut and bolt.  I also would not both using x-ref.

He is a pic of a quick example of what the browser might look like.  this will fix BOM issues, except you will need a drawing for the sub assembly.

Hi @Anonymous,

Regarding your first issue, would it be possible to share the design?  Without the design, it would be difficult to say what is going on.  It could well be a bug.

Regarding the second issue, this one is a bit more complex.  In general, you want mirrored components to have different names, because they are, indeed, different.  However, you point out an interesting bit of the mirror workflow:  Some components are symmetric, and in real life, things like bolts, etc are not mirrored.  We have discussed enhancements to mirror to allow you to specify some components that are instanced in the mirrored components, not actually mirrored.  However, that is likely to be a ways off.  Until then, the only way to do this is to mirror only the components that really are mirrored, and use component instances (copy/paste of the component) for things like fasteners, which are not mirrored, and then connect them with additional rigid joints as needed.

Ok, I get where you guys are coming from on the mirrored components being different.  Like my table legs being Left Hand and Right Hand.

As for Copy/Pasting 24 pieces of hardware with Joints.  That didn't work out so well.  I tried that first but all the joints came undone and I couldn't seem to place the Copied Set of bolts into another location.

Take a look at this screencast.  I also attached my model

some things to point out in the model.  I did not constrain my sketches (big no no, only spent 20 min to get this far).  nothing is the right size this model is something like 4" long.
