Importing Inventor assembly

Hi all,

I've got a friend who is trying to collaborate with me in Fusion. So far he's found that he prefers to stick with Inventor and but would like to be able to keep things current with my Fusion project. Is there any way for him to import his Inventor assemblies into Fusion? What seems to happen now is we get an empty assembly file and about a dozen parts as individual documents.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

Luke

You may find the below tip helpful.

It's not an associative solution, meaning that the Inventor files will have to be copied to your A360 project if there's an update. However, it should make transferring all of the referenced files easier.

I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Wow! That is a process for sure. Is there any way to just upload the files directly through autodesk360.com or Fusion's data panel? The guy I'm working with is very clever but is kind of used to a more traditional workflow. I don't want to ask him to follow that guide if there's an easier way.

There is a Pack and Go command in the save menu of Inventor that will collate a copy of all of the referenced files for an Inventor document (part, assembly, drawing, or presentation) inside of one directory.

Once you have the files collected in one spot, it is just a matter of uploading them into Fusion 360. You can do it through the upload command in the data panel or in the Dashboard.

If you try to upload via the data panel and only select the a file with missing references, you'll get a warning.

If you select all the files to be uplaoded, you can then choose to select the "top" level assembly.

All files select Top.PNG

If you are uploading via the Dashboard, you will have some different options when you select all the files. You can choose to upload a composite design which will "zip" up all referenced files into one item in your project. Note that you can set the project file (IPJ) in this dialog which can control which files are used as referenced documents.

Once the design is uploaded and synced to your data panel, you can right click on the design and choose Create Fusion Design to "import" the design into a native Fusion 360 format.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any questions.
