Deleting them may be a harder thing to do, if possible, but you can easily turn them off, while in your sketch, by unchecking the indicated box.

It looks like you've not seen my complete re-design of your model in the first thread containing this same model.

Are you really interested in learning how to do things properly or do you just want to get this one model done?

That sketch is completely over complicated! That is already the case without the projected geometry.

Delete is a bad thing at any time,

deleting Projections raises questions,

there are some related Preference settings that can be implemented.

Why did you Project if - it will be deleted?

Project without link?

Might help....

Yes, see the last 2 posts in this thread.

  1. Could you possibly link the remake of the design?

The blue highlighted text in my last post is a link to your own thread 😉

Isn't it always something when you search for an answer to a problem -- like how to delete projected geometry -- and have to wade through a bunch of comments like: "you are a fool for wanting to do that". Or "if you made the model correct from the start you wouldn't have this problem".  Yes, I understand that there is a "right way" to do things in some tools, but "right way" can be confused with "only way". I think lots of times more experienced users have been dealing with a lame workaround for so long they forget that the "only way" is stupid or awkward -- a result of a poorly designed tool. Maybe if the TOOL was designed better, these issues wouldn't arise.

Huh?  Was it something I said?

I recognize that Fusion does things we didn't ask for, so deleting that stuff is not causing a problem.  Is it?

Hi,

In this case I think you should refer to RULE #0 and especially points 4 and 5 in the last section. I don't think

@davebYYPCU  has done anything wrong in his post other than suggest that the original poster may have an issue

with their workflow. Your Rant about Gurus pointing fingers about "right ways" and suggesting fusion is in some way

is broken does not address the spirit of the original comment at all.

The question of why you would want to delete projections or indeed most things in fusion is quite valid and

addresses not correcting other peoples mistakes but guiding them to the correct workflows. These workflows in

some ways might be the "only" way or a "preferred" way but in all cases have been learned by trial and error and

often the hard way by people who appear to have exceptionally more experience than you do.

It is clear that you have not understood this original post and so I will explain it for you so that you do understand.

As a design engineer, I want my designs to not only flow but also be able to be easily followed by others so that

they can see my design intent, and in a worse case take over the design without having to start again from scratch.

If I delete important things from my design then others cannot follow as easily when they try to look at a design

in the future. You may yourself not be able to follow your own design at some future date because you have deleted

information. In my experience, most people who claim that they will "remember in the future" often don't.

The original post in this thread was about deleting projections. The question is valid to be raised about why you need

to delete these projections. A projection should be a link from previous sketches and geometry or parts that assists

the designer in some way with the new sketch. It might be for a part that will be designed in place and this link

defines an origin in the sketch. Logic dictates that you should only project what you need onto a sketch and so if

you make a mistake then it is valid to delete the mistake. If however you have used the projection in your new sketch

and you subsequently delete it, then you are deleting important information that may be needed to follow the flow

and design intent. Questioning why a user would want to delete something as important as a Projection is valid in

this case.

If the original user used the wrong words and instead of "delete" what he actually meant was "hide" is also quite

valid to raise. This forum is world wide and many times English is not a users native language. Also fusion uses

some key words that are not obvious if someone mis-uses them. I was recently abused by someone from Germany

who kept complaining I didn't understand him because he was using the word "drawing" in his post and what he

described was his problem was perfectly able to be done on a drawing. What his problem was actually concerning

was with Sketches. Once this was resolved the issue was trivial to solve. In this case, again raising that you may hide

projected geometry in several ways is also valid.

In terms of "Delete is a bad thing at any time" is important because apart from removing important information

from others, fusion treats the Delete command quite differently from the Remove command and not all users know

this important difference. @jeff_strater recently commented upon this difference between the two Commands in

another thread. After a short search I was unable to locate it but I am sure that if you want to know the difference he

will explain it again.

My only issue with Dave's post is that it may have been a little blunt and to the point, but it was objective and valid.

Gurus like Dave are here to help. Look at the Solutions Leaderboard, he is currently as I write this in 4th place.

Cheers

Andrew
