How do I print out a sketch?

Hi all,

What's the best way to go about printing out a sketch on a regular inkjet printer to scale?

Exporting isn't an option at all from a drawing have to pay for a subscription for that

This is what I do, but it's still a workaround and it's still not showing things like construction lines etc that might be guidance on how to align/orient parts etc.

I, like many others, would simply like to be able to print a 1:1 scale version of the sketch I'm on for rapid test fitting / proportioning against the things I'm working on.

I read through this whole thread in March 2022 because I was trying figure out how to print a Fusion 360 sketch.  I now see that I'm using the wrong tool for what I'm trying to do, which is create & print a dimensioned 2D drawing.  It's too bad they don't include some way to print the sketch 1:1 or at least export it to PDF.

The sketch environment is not really designed for it. The drawing environment works really well. There are lots of ways to do it in the drawing environment. Attached is a f3d file showing how I made a simple control panel and a screen shot of the drawing.

The drawing environment is awesome and works well.  In my case, I had spent a lot of time on a particular sketch, and wanted to print it.  Googling brought me to this thread, where I learned that sketches can't be printed.

When this thread started there was no drawing environment at all. Also, there was no sketch export to dxf facility. I use both to generate sketches for the shop floor. LibreCAD can print the dxf at a 1:1 scale.

Careful somebody will tell you that you are using the application wrong.

Not wrong. But how long will this go on?
You can print your sketch.
No you can't just put it on the screen and hit print.
6 or more years using this software, I've never needed to print a sketch.
And never had anyone ask me to.

And yet here you are in a 9 page thread of people asking for such a feature 🙂 I don't wear shoes, doesn't mean other folk don't find a user for them. In many cases being able to print a sketch would allow one to quickly print and validate templates and parts without the unnecessary hurdle of replicating it in the drawing environment just to make an intermediate printout. If you're not yet finished with the model, this can be very useful for some.

Just add a Show Dimensions option when using a sketch in a Drawing.

I use the Snipping Tool from Microsoft. Less than ideal but seems to work.

The problem with doing that way is it’s not always printed at a 1:1 leaves
room for error.

Just came across this thread - might this approach help out somewhat?

Here's a sample, where I have a small Fusion model sketch transferred to the drawing environment, where it then shows on a 1:1 (or any other, as per usual) scale.

You'd create this drawing in the normal fashion, but you'd indicate the drawing content is "select", where you'd then select the sketch.

When placed on the drawing, the sketch is then presented in a phantom line - you can correct that to a continuous line through the drawing's document settings (Annotations - Sketch - Line type).

It's not the ideal solution, I know - but it might be handy to get the odd sketch out.  You can at least dimension this somewhat.

You can print from fusion...

Have your Design opened and active>click on File in the upper left>choose New Drawing>click From Design >a Create Drawing window will open>make sure it says Create New and From Scratch>click OK

Sing one verse of "If You're Happy and Know Clap your Hands" while you wait for the drawing to generate.

The Generated Drawing will have A Title Bar and a Border. A Drawing View window will open where you can set the scale to the size you want.

>Click on the PDF symbol at the top right> your printer will cough a bit and spit out a drawing.

It took me a month to find this path.

Open the Design you want to print>Click on File in the upper left>Click on New Drawing>choose From Design>the Create Drawing window will open>make sure it set at Create New and From Scratch>click OK>It takes a moment but a Drawing with a border and a title block will open. You will need to Set the Scale in the Drawing View Window that opened on the right. Once you have the scale you want click OK>click on the PDF Icon in the upper right and your printer will cough and hack then print out a drawing. It took me a month to figure this out.
