How do I either move a canvas from one component to another or stop it greying out when selecting another component?

As per the title I'm trying to line up parts of a sketch up to a picture (canvas) but the canvas is in another component so when I edit the sketch the canvas becomes too light (greyed out) to see properly. TIA I cant get any copy or cut options to paste it..

The answer to the first part of the question, "How to move the canvas to another component?" is that the canvas will move with the plane on which it was created (if the canvas is referencing a construction plane - I'm not sure about a canvas associated with an origin plane).
