Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for posting!

It looks like you are in the direct modeling mode within Fusion 360. This means that there is no history associated with your design which can make it difficult to go back and edit things. I'm not certain what exactly what it is about the extrude that you would like to edit, however if it just the distance of the extrusion that needs changing, you can always make changes to that using the "Press/Pull" command (keyboard shortcut = Q).

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any questions!

Cheers,

I am working with a model I created in a different CAD software.

How do I get out of the direct editing mode into parametric?

Can I work with an imported model and still create new parametric components and capture design history?

@mike.tessier - Thanks for the help!

Hi @Anonymous,

Any time! I am always happy to assist! 🙂

To exit direct modeling and enter parametric modeling, you can right click the top level of the design and select "Capture design history" as shown below.

To answer your other question, yes you can work with an imported model and still make new parametric components. Just as a heads up though, depending on the software used to create the imported models, the imported model will come in as a base feature. A base feature is a "dumb" solid that doesn't have any history. It's just the geometry of the solid that is imported.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any questions!
