How can I make a component transparent in an assembly?

I'm a SolidWorks guy.  In an assembly I need to make one component transparent to see inside the part while the other components move.  Is this possible?

Right-click on the Component in the Browser and select Opacity Control.

Yeah, I have read that.  That option is not available when I right click on a component in the browser of on the actual component.

In that case you may want to share your model or create screencast or both.

I cannot recall a situation where I did not have that menu available.

He claims to not see the Opacity Control when right clicking the Component in the Browser.

Hey Scott, I feel your pain.  To all the others yes, when you insert a "part" into a fusion file that you are using as an "assembly" then when you right click on the component you do not get opacity control.  Fusion does see to allow opacity control on a component, only on bodies.  The solution that I have come up with is to open the component that you want to make transparent, look in the bodies section and find the body for your component (there may be a few) right click on that and you can make it say 50% transparent. You then need to save the part, go back to the assembly and do get latest.  Note that the opacity may not work if you have a material assigned to that body that has translucency applied to it so make sure to remove that if it is not working.

Hope this helps,

Paddy

I also am a "Solidworks guy" and had the same problem that you describe for components that are brought into Fusion as a STEP file with no bodies.  Here is what I did:

Right click on the component and select "Appearances" from the menu that appears.  Select colored glass as the appearance for the component.  To do this you drag the material from the window on the right side of the picture below, and drop the selected material on the component.
