Help making bulbous top on flat surface

Im looking to make the top of this patch rounded (or bulbous), it should only be about 1mm tall.. Please let me know if you need any more details.

@jeff_strater  Here's a bug for you 🙂  A two direction extrude can't have "nearly" coincident edges...

I actually just had this same thing come up as I'm trying to recreate a center hub cap for my car.

 

The steps are:

1) Type L for line

2) Create a line from the origin point and end it exactly half the diameter of your final diameter

3) Hit the tab key to escape but keep the line tool active

4)Create a line from the origin point and end it exactly the height you need, in your case, 1mm

4) Hit the tab key to escape but keep the line tool active

5) Choose 3 point arc and draw an arc from the top of your vertical line to the end of your horizontal line, finalize the arc the way you want it, and finish sketch.

6) Choose the sketch from the tree on the left side of your workspace, right click to edit.

7) Delete the bottom horizontal line from your sketch, leaving only the vertical and the arc.

😎 Switch to the "Surface" menu and choose revolve.

 You will now have a surface exactly the height and diameter you need.

Step 2 should be the full diameter.  When you create the 3 point arc it will be tangent at the centerpoint when the final shape is rotated.  At half the diameter, otherwise called the radius 🙂 , the arc may or may not be tangent.

Step 5.  The arc should be drawn from the endpoints of the horizontal line and coincident with the top of the vertical line.

 

p.s. Check the sketch in the file and the timeline.  There is no need for an extra surface.

I was just trying to help the guy out. I'm no expert, but it worked for me, so I thought it would work for him. I guess that will teach me to not be so helpful.

The surface method works, so don't get too upset.  If the bubble was more complex, the form tool would be good to use.

One thing my 68 years on the planet has taught me is that there's more than one way to skin a cat. Now,

I'm a rank newbie to CAD and Fusion, but I do like to help people whenever I can. My method may not be your method or the best method, but it gets the job done. Just don't understand why people are so quick to jump down someone's throat when all they're trying to do is help.

On further reflection, a revolved surface is a proper way to create the spherical surface on the extruded text.  It can also be done with a solid revolve and Combine/Cut.  The surface of the extruded text in my file only appears spherical from one side.  The method of creating the 3 point arc using the full diameter is still the best way to create the surface or solid revolve.
