Grid Pattern on Body not matching. NEWBIE

First up, I apologise if this seems like a simple answer to someone, but it's doing my head in, and I'm very, very new at this design stuff.

I make cement candle jars and have now delved into designing my own and making moulds. I am trying to reverse engineer a mould I already have of a jar.(see image)

I have the base of the jar done and now want to place a grid pattern on the jar. The problem I am having is making the pattern match up evenly when I use the circular pattern tool.

I have tried using the emboss and now using extrude. intersect which works better. Both however give the same result.

Any help, or suggestion would be great!

Your pic shows that the pattern is not real deep.  For mold purposes these cuts should have draft.

In my pic I would need to know are you cutting towards the vertical axis, (lower) or the centre of the arc (top).

Blue, orange and white sketch articles are not stable, and should keep you awake.

If tempted to mirror part of the sketch, don't, mirror the model parts instead.

The sketch pattern width will have to work with the circumference of the jar.

Might help....

@melcoe21

As you progress in your techniques you will want to adopt computationally efficient sketches.

Do you want just a surface grid or do you want grid and holes?

Thank you so much for the video. I learnt a lot from it about my sketches and how to define them better. I just now need to make the grid shape around the jar. You were very clear in the video and should be teaching.
