Fusion 360 Mac OS X crashes - completely unusable

I downloaded the trial from the Mac App Store to a Macbook Pro Retina late 2013 with 16GB RAM and SSD drive. The program crashed every time I started it and tried to start the basic tutorial. I submitted a few crash reports to Apple. I had never experienced problems with any applications before trying Fusion 360. I uninstalled it within an hour of launching it and starting the 30-day trial for the first time.

Hi,

Can you tell us what platform you are on? And if you have ever had another version of Fusion on this system?

Also what type of video card?

Fusion 360 is very graphics intensive. Can you check to ensure your video driver is current? You can do this here:  http://www.displaylink.com/support/downloads.php

Also, for Mac users with NVidia graphics cards with <512 MB memory, who may experience failures after extended use, during export archive, or during rendering, turning off effects is a way to reduce this problem. Turn off (in order of severity):

     1. Anti-Aliasing
     2. Ambient Occlusion
     3. Ground Reflection
     4. Object Shadow

Also in Preferences, ensure that these settings are in effect - especially Transparency Effect > Better Performance.

The Video card is NVidia GeForce GT 750M with 1536 MB memory. I had already played with most of thoses and other settings with the same results. I have in the interim removed the program and do not plan on reinstalling as a fair trial is not possible. Thanks.

P.S. Running on Mavericks 10.9, MacBook Pro Retina late 2013, no previous Fusion 360 installations.

Unfortunately I cannot find any crash reports with the email address you sent to me. Please post your log files generated when you launched Fusion 360. You should be able to find them in "<user>/Library/Application Support/Autodesk/Autodesk Fusion 360/<Project ID>/". The name of log files are like "AppLogFileXXXXXX.log".

I am seeing similar issues on a new (6-core Mac Pro with dual 3GB GPUs). I've noticed lagging/freezing when zooming, selecting bodies and editing/deleting mating joints. I've submitted multiple crash reports today.

Not sure where to find the report IDs, but in the meantime, I have filed reports with apple using the email saabassguy (at) hotmail.com and loganwedwards (at) gmail.com while signed in to Fusion 360.

I'm also happy to discuss the issues over email/phone as well.

Regards,

Logan

I saw a couple of crash reports you sent, which shown different issues. Unfortunately I cannot reproduce them with limited information. Do you have any reproducible steps?

I appreciate your great support. We could exchange more information by email as that must be more efficient. My email is marshal dot tu at autodesk dot com.

Thanks,

Marshal

I have the exact same issues, 9 out of 10 trying to launch Fusion crashes instantly even after the lastest update.

I really love using it so I just try and try until it works but I'm running out of patience.

I can't find anything under ~/Library/Application Support/Autodesk/Autodesk....  there seems to be not Autodesk folder under Application Support which is really weird..

Forgot to mention my system is a brand new 5K iMac with a 4Ghz processor and the 4Gb Video Card so processor or graphics is not an issue, also this was happening with the previous version of Fusion (before the update a few days ago) on this iMac and on my Previous 2013 iMac with 2GB of Video mem and 3.4Ghz processor.

Trying to follow this:
http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fusion-360/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-...

But again no Autodesk under Application Support, even after I removed the app and re-installed it from the App Store, even funnier is that the crash rate has changed from 99% to 100% haven't been able to get it running today 😞

Sorry about the crashes.  Can you send me your e-mail address to prabakar.murugappan@autodesk.com so that we can specifically look at where you are crashing and address it.

Thanks,

Prabakar.

@darionovoa - I believe we have found the cause of your crashes.  This issue is only an issue for users that have installed Fusion from the Mac App Store.  We will be fixing the issue in an upcoming release, but there is a workaround described below.  We are still looking into the other issues reported in this thread.

Workaround:  Note - you should only need to do this once.

1. In Finder, select the menu item Go > "Go to Folder...".  In the dialog type in "~/Library/Containers".

2. Delete the folder "com.autodesk.mas.fusion360" from the Containers folder.

3. Invoke Fusion360

4. Immediately go to the "Preferences..." menu item, go to the tab "Data Collection and Use" and uncheck "Desktop Analytics Program" and "Google Analytics".

5. After these options have been unchecked, please try to save a design and exit the application.  This is to ensure your cloud preferences get syncronized correctly.

6. You should now be able to use the application without crashing.  If your problem persists, please contact me directly kris.berg@autodesk.com
