Flatten body to mill on a plywood panel

Hello,

I modeled a fuselage in design. It has lateral panels that are flat and top and bottom derived from an airfoil  and then completed with spline. All panels are bodies inside a component.

I need to flatten these top and bottom curved bodies so I can profile-cut them in CAM.

 

I searched and tried some solutions that pass trough sheet metal without success.

 

Could you point  me to some solution?

If your curved portion is actually arc or tangent arcs, you can make the flat pattern,

You can not unfold or make a flat pattern from spline curves.

1. are you talking about profile gluing?

2. please share the file of a typical part.

 

File > export > save as f3d on local device  > attach it to the next post

Spline based geometry will flatten if created properly.

Hi,

that can be done this way.
However, I recommend creating the cut-outs in flat state.

First thing I wonder about when I see something like this is, "What is the manufacturing/design tolerance?"

You have a curve that is close to horizontal, but not quite a simple horizontal line.

Now, if it has to be as it is, it has to be as it is...

But, if it can be a horizontal line...

 just take the stretched length with the measuring tool > done.

Is this sketch5? It could be flat indeed but as I said I'm not an engineer, and I didn't imagine that I went across troubles sketching this way.

You mean I create a rectangular sketch with that length and mill it?

That could be a way, I must project the holes in some way on this new sketch..

The one in front of the fuselage has no problem, the one on the back could, It must correspond to the reinforce underneath it...

Hi,

Such a profile with a thickness 1,6 mm is glued to the side panels without prior bending. So take the stretched length and the width of 50 mm, cut out the triangle.

So with my design there is no way to flatten that curved body by using some fusion 360 tool..

Which way do you suggest to design this kind of bodies?

Hi,

Follow the path I have described above.
1. create a blank with the plate (1,6mm) with the length (measured stretched length) and the width (50mm)
2. if it is to be made with CNC, put the sketch for the desired cut-outs on this plate and generate the necessary tool paths for the machining.

With all due respect, this is as shooting at sparrows with a cannon.
