Export several bodies as one single STL

In the below case i have 3 separate bodies but that need to be printed all together as one single STL.

So we need to be able to select these 3 bodies + right click "export as one STL".

You can do this right now, however, it's not very intuitive.

Turn OFF all the bodies you don't want to export, then RIGHT click on the "Deathly Hallows V1".

From there you should see a "Save as STL...".

Select that and a dialog will come up which will allow you to save all the bodies into a single STL file.

While I think this is a good idea, it can cause problems.

When you submit a project to a protoyper it needs to be a seperate file for each object, otherwise they print all the objects in the same file toghether and then you suddely don't have moving parts any more, they all get built as one object.

So...it would be better to be able to select multiple objects at once but have the software make seperate files for each object.

Eric, that is already an option.  You can save to a single STL file or multiple STL files.

And when it comes to 3D printing, there are times when it is more convenient to have multiple bodies in a single file rather than a bunch of files.

report yourself to the mod and ask them to do it.

it would help if you post your file I can see one reason from your pick there may be other reasons why the save as .stl is not coming up

Hey @mad.macs

I can't open the file either, can you export it as a .f3d file (file->Export...) and attach it here for me to try converting?

Thanks,
Xander Luciano

I just make a single component for printing, then use subcomponents to store all of the bodies.  It's easy and intuitive if you know what I mean 🙂

Here is the file. I wonder if the export issue has to do with the Mesh Objects included. One of the pieces gives me some issues with scale if I try to import it to 123D make.

Thanks for looking into it!

Hello Brien

I seems I do not have the option available, it is not active at least.

I was planning to run two materials at the same time so need to save as complete STL

Tried different ways but no luck. Followed some of the ideas on this site but they do not seem to work for me.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers,

George

It works fine.  There are a few rules about it.  You can select the top node in the browser or you can select multiple components when they are subcomponents with the same parent.

See Rule#1 for organizing your workflow.

Share your file or make a screencast if you're still having problems.
