Error while splitting bodies

I am trying to create a holder for 18650 batteries. Therefore I create a number of vertical cylinders as body2, then I create another plate-form as body1 with intention to cut cylinders out of it that only vertical pins remain that were spaces between them. But when trying to split plate-form with cylinders block, I am getting the message "Coincident tools would create illegal or non-manufacturable bodies. Try with separate tools". 

Why i am getting this?

hm, strange..

anyway. I just resolved it through "combine" command. not that it answers why cannot use "split", but i got what i wanted to get ))
