We still haven't fixed the 'zoom to origin' that happens when you "look at" a sketch with the look at command. However, there is a workflow that takes advantage of how Look at will look at faces correctly (just not sketches).
If you want to turn off the automatic Look At that happens when you create or edit a sketch, try this workflow:
- Turn off Auto Look At preference

2. When sketching, use the Look At command if you need to orthogonally look at a face, or the view cube if it lines up with the cube faces.

3. Use the Select Other menu to pick the face under the sketch profile while selecting the face to look at. This performs the minimum translation.
