Cut/carve sketch along path

This may be a simple solution, but I am very new to fusion (coming from autocad and sketchup) and I cannot figure out how, and not sure the fusion terms to be able to search for an answer.

How do you carve/cut a sketch along a path on a body?
I am attempting to add the U shaped channel like in the attached image. I can create the path I need to follow as a sketch on hte top face and create the radius circle I need to follow it with on the vertical face. But cannot work out how to 'carve' the radius by following the path with it.

The command you will use is called "Sweep".  It requires two sketches, one of the profile you want to cut and one of the path you want to cut along.

Here is a quick Screencast of what I think you want.  Note:  I did not constrain any of my sketches just to make a quick video, you will need to make sure you do this in yours.

I must be doing something wrong with my path and profile sketches ,perhaps? They are both drawn on the surface I need them to be (path on top face, circle on side face).

Testing it out on a simple test object gives me this.

I only get "new body" and "new component" as my drop down options. As it makes a new solid body vs a cut.

Attach your model, I will help you out.  If you do not know how to attach your Fusion 360 model follow these easy steps. Open the model in Fusion 360, select the File menu, then Export and save as a F3D or F3Z file to your hard drive. Then use the Attachments section, of a forum post, to attach it.

Edit: Just a guess, you are not selecting the entire circle as your Profile.

Sure thing can do!

And I very much appreciate the help. I was trying to work it out on my own, even tried the sweep tool before but got the same results I have this time. So figured it must not be the tool I needed and proceeded to try every other one before posting 🙂

This attachment is all the steps up to actually using the sweep tool. Has the circle and path I am trying to use.

As I guessed, in my edit in the last post, you just missed selecting the lower section of your profile circle.  You need to look for the light blue areas that define profiles when working with any Create tool.  Screencast will show the issue.  I will not return the model, I am sure you can understand how to fix it using the video.

A little hint: Sometimes applying material or appearance too early will hide sketch profiles, points and other entities you will need to work with.

You can easily post a link to your Screencast using the Link icon in the above tool bar.

Edit, sorry I just saw your link.

You are using a Surface Sweep!!!  You need to be under the Solid toolbar.

OK, now I feel bad for wasting your time 🙂 Where do I pick up my complimentary dunce hat at?

Sometimes you stare at a self created problem so long, you don't see the problem you yourself made to get stuck on.

I had a lot of these moments when I first started using CAD over 35+ years ago, do not feel bad.  By the way, as you get more into Fusion 360, you will find the Surface environment just as useful.  Come back to the Forum often, there are a lot of talented Forum users waiting to help.
