Creating a funnel using sheet metal function

Hi all,

I am trying to create a funnel using the sheet metal commands but only manage to do parts of it. How should I flair out the sloped sheet to meet the 300 mm on the far top?

The first picture illustrates the outcome, which by the way was done using loft command, and the second illustrates part of the attempt to construct the funnel using the sheet metal commands.

Here is a quick, rough idea to build on. I realized after I was done that I didn't pay much attention to the side I created the flanges. It's not a 100% perfect example but you get the idea.

Brian, as an instructional designer by trade, I'm curious to know which screen capture software you're using that shows the mouse as well as the mouse button being clicked? I don't know that I've seen that particular one before.

Autodesk has a program called Screencast. It's designed mostly for Autodesk software but I believe it does work with some other programs as well. I'm pretty new to Fusion and the Autodesk community so I'm not super familiar with all of it just yet.

Ah, thanks. Thought you might be using something like TechSmith Camtasia but I had not seen that particular mouse pointer option before.

 

Looks like there's a native Mac version of Screencast as well (RIGHT ON AUTODESK!!!). Downloading now.

Hi Brian,

Thank you for your effort! It's a clever solution but the design needs to have flanges on sides and when you pattern the design I do not think Fusion creates it on the sides.

Much appreciated your time in trying to solve it though.

Hmmm, not sure I follow 100%. Do we need to create flange for assembly? If you can explain a little more I'll be happy to try to help find a resolution to this challenge.

The simplest way to explain it is to imagine a flat sheet and then you bend it to form the for side - meaning 3 sides will have the flange.

Well that wouldn't be possible because there would be collision on the lower flanges when the piece was unfolded. We could make the sloped and upper flange out of one piece and make the lower (smaller) flange separate. Let me work on this a minute and see what I can come up with.

Ok this extends beyond my experience. It's likely possible if you create the first sloped flange and then flange the side of it and adjust your faces and extrude off the excess but that seems like a bit more than I'm able to accomplish in a reasonable amount of time.

If we have more complacte funnel, we jus fail very hard with this style of sheet metal modeling.

 

We missing very hard a sheet metal converting from loft-design to sheet metal, without this you can forget complicated funnels.

Did you figure out how to model your design in Fusion 360?
