constructing a 3d sketch

Hello everybody,

i'd like to draw a 3D Sketch, along a certain path. (see attached picture)

the path should follow the surfaces of cylinders, almost like a helix (that i would do with the helix tool.

thing is, the bend changes direction mid-ways....

i can draw the 'shadows' of the sketch, just as in the attached picture.

- is there a way to turn parametric curves into splines?

- is there a way to project onto spheres?$

- can i do some path-rail-thing?

- has anyone ever done something similar? (most likely, i guess)

Help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Check the file,

Made the path with two 2d sketches, (your shadows)

Create a 3d sketch,

Use Project > Intersection Curve, and starting at the uncommon end of the path,

select first portion of each curve, repeat as you walk along each curve, you are building a purple projected 3d curve in segments.

When you get to the end of sketch 3, there is still a short line in sketch 2,

Use Project > Include 3d Geometry, and select it.

Should works as a path.

For your questions,

- I don't think so.

- Yes, Project < Project to Surface, You need to be in an active 3d sketch.

- Yes, as above,

- Yes, used for rails in Loft, path for sweep, etc.

Might help...
