Circle will not snap to intersection of two construction lines when moved

Anonymous

Hi,

When trying to move a circle (or any sketch object) so that it's centre coincides with the the intersection of two intersecting construction lines, I am unable to snap to this point.

Ie: By selecting the object > Right Click > MOVE and then selecting Point to point in the sketch pallet, I am unable to select a point where the two lines cross to make the move precisely.

Is there a "snap to" feature "or a Create Point" feature that I am missing.?

Thanks, Jeff.

Are these intersecting lines in the same sketch ?

A screencast would help as well as sharing the design.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes the intersecting lines are part of the same sketch (on the same plane).

Should a "snap to" point automatically appear?

Hey everyone,

I'm having the same problem; I have two lines on the same sketch whose intersection is not a snap point. I can recreate the problem with a simple sketch of a circle and a line, so I have a feeling this isn't happening by accident:

I can upload more details if needed.

Any chance @Anonymous figured out how to solve the problem or found a workaround?

Also, I'm very new to the forums so if the kind of post I'm making right now is not allowed then feel free to delete it.

Thanks!

You may have to create a screencast and show in action what you are experiencing. It works on my side.

I have the same, exact problem.  There must be a simple fix, something I'm missing and no apparent replies to help us newbies figure this one out?

Take a look at the Screencast.

two things occur to me:  1.  you casually mention "grounding" which I don't know anything about and 2.  your example is within a single sketch.  Where I ran into this involved 2 different sketches on the same plane.  I turn them both on (visible) and then attempt to draw a third line from a point through the intersection of 2 original lines that intersect.  I would include a screen cast but cannot find any info on how to edit one once created.

You may need to project the lines from the second sketch to the first (or vise versa) in order to get the intersection, although Fusion 360 may automatically project the line.

Here's the settings I use in Preferences:

I prefer to manually use the coincident constraint instead of relying on Fusion 360 to select the correct lines.

p.s. The screencast shows why you may want to ground some geometry, but it's usually better to fully constrain that geometry.

Hi,

in the screencast I show some variants with linked and unlinked projection.

I picked this topic because I thought I could get the answer I wanted from the solution.  I have not been successful and am still stuck.  My specific question seems closely related.  It involves two arbitrary intersecting lines on the same plane (sketch 1).  Sketch 2 contains a single line (on the same plane) that I want to start from any random point and then pass through the intersection of the 2 lines in sketch 1.  Seem really simple, however I cannot figure out how to accomplish this.

Many ways to do that.  Screencast shows one way.  You could also break one of the lines which will give you an endpoint at the intersection. Project that point, then you can either draw a line from it or one to it.

thank you for the screen cast solution. I don't see anywhere on this forum page where I can "accept the solution". I checked the "like" button but that's all I could see as an option.
