Cannot complete surface sweep

I tried using a surface sweep using a really simple sketch as the profile and a square sketch as the path, they are touching at a single point and the sweep works for any distance as long as it is not 100% of the path.

 

For example, 99% of the path works:

But 100% does not:

The reason for doing this is because I want to split a body using the surface as a cutting tool, I thought this was a good idea to make a fit between the two parts. If there is a better way, please let me know.

Example of what I want: (but in this case the cutting profile is missing on one side)

Hi

Add the missing piece using the Loft and Stitch all.

Or create half the length and duplicate it using Mirror or Circular Pattern and Stitch all.

But why cant I just sweep 100% of the object? Is it a bug?
And would you use this approach if you had to make a lip/groove on a object?

The Fusion algorithm doesn't like closed loops.

There are many ways to do this.

100% path error must be a Surface thing - we have always been able to solid sweep the full Path, with mitred corners if using an internal path.

Why surface at all?  You have been shown how complicated it is.

Split the body with a plane, or separate Extrudes above and below, Solid Sweep the two lips, and Combine > Cut not required either.
