Bug in Pattern on Path

I want to use the pattern on path tool, but it doesn't behave as expected.

Initially it looks like this: 

During the pattern on path command the preview looks perfect:

But when I hit okay, everything gets screwed up. I believe that the path gets mirrored somehow: 

Am I missing something or is this bug?

This is definitely not right, might be a bug.  Could you attach the file please so we could take a look.

I attached the version where the pattern on path tool isn't used yet.

this is a known defect and should have been fixed. you can check by next release

Is there an easy way around this?

Hi rvaaler - a fairly straightforwad (if inelegant) workaround is to edit the spheres so that they're new bodies and then use combine to cut them out:
