Breaking link changes component - Bug ?

I am trying to help a user in this thread and downloaded the two components, the leg and crossmember.

When inserting these into a new assembly and breaking the link for the crossmemeber it changes the geometry of the component.

I've created a screencast.

Here is the link to the thread with the two components.

Trippy,

This is an interesting model. The short story is the cross member part is missing features and using cached features, near as I can tell. If you open the part and look at the timeline there is an impossible operation at the end. Offset was used to remove the trimmed solid ends of the pipe via the parameter value "-Wall". Offset does not offset bodies to zero volume.

[correction: should say Remove instead of Delete in this image]

My best  guess is this part was made by Save Copy As from a larger assembly. It was not made as an activated component and may be missing some of the parametric inputs used to create it. I'm surprised it's not a base body because of this. So yes it's a bug, but only in that Fusion did too good a job preserving the part by using too much cache data.

If you open Cross Member and use Compute All you can see that the part changes. When inserted and with Break Link, a compute is done. So this is when you see the part change.

One more thing, to form the ends of this pipe the command Split Body should be used along with Remove.

Yes, assumed it had someting to do with the way the component was created. I ended up deleting everything but the sketch used to create the cutt-offs and simply used a solid, symetric , through-all extrude to create the cut-offs. That fixed it for the screencast I made to help that user.

Thanks for the explanation. These cached features have come up in several threads.

Thanks for bringing this one to our attention. If you see another please let me know, I'll investigate each one, especially if a model is available to examine.

This thread seems to be a good place for my problem. I have attached the assembly as an f3d file. I hope this is the correct way to post the file. So when I "Insert into Current Design" and break the link The assembly changes. I tried making it as a Rigid assembly and inserting and breaking link still changed assembly. See pictures below.

Assembly before insertingAssembly before insertingAssembly after inserting and breaking linkAssembly after inserting and breaking link

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Sorry to take so long to get back to this. This issue is logged as a bug related to the design file data. If you did not find a workaround and are currently stuck, please let me know.

@andy.c I don't see that issue in the file you attached.

@Phil.E 2015 ?

@TrippyLighting the OP is from 2015, and perhaps this recent case could be on it's own thread, but that is not a huge issue here, so I didn't push for it. The issue shown with the grille like object is easily reproduced and now logged.
