Take a look at the Screencast.  I use a new template but you would do the same process on an existing one.

create  "Number" as Custom attribute:

insert custom attribute

No, manual adding is not the solution. Last year there was drawing number attribute and it was automatically coming from 3d model properties. Why is it now removed?

I continued the discussion, after the topic original question was already solved. I was just disappointed because in that attribute list, there was no any new changes. And I just remembered that drawing number attribute was there and I wanted to continue the discussion. I noticed that now that it is not allowed to ask anything more, so I created a new post about that question.
