Applying Appearances to forms, faces stretch the texture

I spent some time making a form and then went to apply a scale texture to the form.  A few problems came up that I had no idea how to fix.

First each face cut the pattern short with visible line, even with shaded view on.  I was wondering if there was a way to mash the faces together according to the appearances to make a smooth, continuous pattern?

Second, if one face was stretched more than another, the pattern inherited that stretch as well.  Is there any way to keep the dimensions of the pattern the same, even on faces that are stretched more than another?

There is a picture attached of the model I am working on with both problems in view.  Some of the scales further to the left are elongated much more than those on the right.  Down the middle of the orange pattern you can see a distinct line where the faces meet and the orange pattern resets.

Finally, is there a way to apply a 3d pattern to a very odd formed shape such as this? I have explored the pattern tool but that only seems to work for simple bodies like cylinders or cubes.  If I could apply a 3d scale pattern then I could fix the two problems stated above decently easily by taking advantage of face patterns.

I am also facing the same issue and would love to hear experienced people's thoughts on it. Thanks!

you might try adjusting the texture controls.  the "box" type projection usually works better for me. (right click the object to access texture controls)-

This was it. I always thought this must have something to do with the underlying geometry. Finally, I found the unwrapping options. Thank you very much!
