angle measure against different axis

hi, I am newbie to Fusion 360. got stuck on my first sketch... trying to draw a line that is 70 degrees from X axis. and i want it to be shown as such. but instead one line shows measure 70 degrees against X axis, another - 20 degrees agains Y axis. how do I change it? thank you.

Hi man!!

You can move the dimension to another location, so the software positions the dimension display differently.
However, in this step (sketch) this type of information does not usually have much importance, after you draw your 3D model, you can create a "Drawing" and position the dimension as you want.

If you do not have an adequate sketch line to measure from to get the exact dimension you need, I suggest you place as many "construction" lines as you need to get the dimension you need.  Construction lines are for layout purposes only and are ignored by Fusion 360 so use them freely.  A word of caution, once you turn them on, the switch is persistent so turn it off as soon as you are finished with it.  Take a look at the Screencast.

Here is the link to my Screencast also.

thanks for insight ))

of course i can live with that. but i was wondering maybe i missed something. it is not very comfortable to calculate like "90 degrees minus 70 degrees - ok, i have to put it 20 degrees against axis Y, instead of just having initially calculated 70 degrees from axis X"

see my screenshot (attached) in the topic start just to have an idea what i am talking about.

thanks, very useful feature.

apparently I have to spend more time to get it right. now I tried to repeat the same problem the same way, somehow both sides of the sketch now stick to X axis... it's really not intuitive )))

can you please check out the screenshot that i have attached to topic start? will be glad if you give me advice on that...

In most all CAD applications, default measurements are taken from the one axis, it may be the acute or the obtuse angle but they are all taken from the axis.  The use of construction lines is a best way to get the dimension you desire.  You will not be able to drag the angle dimension to a position that references a different axis.  In your first attached screen capture, why did you not dimension between the horizontal line and your angle line in both instances?  Also, please remember you can place one angle dimension, then place the other and simple "touch" the value of the first with your cursor to pick up the same value.

I checked the first sketch.  Not complicated yet.

I don’t want to do anything twice.

Fusion has tools to copy the right side as mirror to left side.

You can make a mirror line at 15 and mirror right side to left.

You can centre the 30 line on origin, and use Origin to mirror.

Better to mirror modelling features, than sketch features.

Might help....

"why did you not dimension between the horizontal line and your angle line in both instances? " - this is exactly my problem! for some reason (i don't know why!) fusion started putting the angle from Y axis, not from the horizontal line. It was ok with right one, the left one - i could not change that!

In my short Screencast (no sound), I show how Fusion 360 will dimension the angles you portray.  I also used the opportunity to show you how to use the first angle dimension in the second dimension.  Could your issue be coming from the fact that you have a construction line in your screen capture sketch?

The important bit of information is that, no matter where Fusion places the default dimension, you can delete it and place a dimensions wherever you like.
