Fix thread termination

When 3D printing or otherwise making threads from a modeled thread the thread it's self in F360 works very well except for the end of the thread where it appears to change pitch and does not exit the part properly. To use this thread you either have to try to force it to engage risking stripping or cross threading or you have to remove the first thread to get down to proper pitch and geometry.

This is very inconvienent. The thread should just thread through the whole part with the same pitch and shape until it exits the part or until it ends depending on your settings.

Now I'm starting to wonder if it is more of an optical illusion in CAD combined with the way my 3D printer prints parts.
The more I look at the threads in F360 the more I feel like I am looking at an MC Escher.

When I blow it up to like a 4mm thread pitch is seems as though the thread exits the bore properly but it's really hard to tell.

Here's what I see if I do a combine cut. So I modeled a hole with a thread then used the hole to cut a cylinder so you can see the thread more easily, looks pretty good.

One question you are not adding a chamfer, as that will mess up the end as you can see here.

I was using a chamfer but on an inside thread.
It does seem like that causes it to end below the chamfer.

My examples above are made from threaded holes, I used a boolean difference on a cylinder so you can see the thread easier. There is a workaround for chamfering a threaded hole. Here's a link to a Tips_And_Tutorials thread I've done.

So I guess this is still an issue that should be addressed but just with chamfered holes.

This is also a problem for external threadsl, I put an idea here that's been tagged as solution provided. Seems like a workaround not a solution to me!

 

I've done a Tips_And_Tutorials thread for rods as well.

Agreed, it's nice to know a way to make it work but I wouldn't consider this a proper solution.

I also found this problem with chamfers on female threaded holes. If you put the chamfer first, the thread stops at the chamfer. It's OK for machined parts, but it's not good for 3D printed SLA parts where the fasteners don't fit.

 

If you add a chamfer after the thread, the chamfer is not correct.

 

I have to:

- Create a simple drilled hole

- Add the thread

- Create a countersunk hole coaxial with the first hole

 

This means creating three holes when one feature should do it all. It's not impossible to solve, but it's time-consuming if you have a lot of holes.
