How to chamfer modeled threaded holes.

If you add a thread to a chamfered hole the thread is not formed correctly, it will leave an undercut. There are a couple of workarounds, the easiest is to make a cosmetic thread first, add the chamfer after the thread, then edit the thread feature and change to modeled.

 

Here's a screencast to demonstrate. The first thread is added to a chamfered hole, this will not work if you try and 3d print, the second is a modeled threaded then chamfered.

You can also add a modeled thread to a chamfered hole and delete the face between the thread and the undercut, which will heal the threads to how they should look.

I'll try to make a screencast or grab a couple screen shots if anyone is interested.

I tried your method and it works OK but I don't like that it leaves a delete in the timeline, if you're working in direct mode it wouldn't matter. Your method did give me an idea for another way to get a chamfer without an undercut. If you add the thread to a chamfered rod you can drag the thread in the timeline to before the chamfer and you get a thread that runs through the chamfer. Here's a screen cast.

I find this method does not work in the latest update (May 2016) of Fusion 360.

However it is possible to perform the following steps to achieve the result:
a) Add the chamfer
b) Add the thread
c) delete the back face of the chamfer

I Just tested and it still works fine for me, I'm using the PC version not that that should matter.

This is the same method that was suggested in post #2 in this thread, I don't like this way as much as it adds a delete to the timeline. Also seems to take a long time to calculate if you had a few of these in a design and need to run Compute All it could take a while to process.

1000th times thanks. I have been trying many different way's, sometimes chamfer did work selecting all 3 or 4 lines of a modeled thread, but when changing the parametric design it often broke again. I was about to make a parametric cutting tool again to cut the chamfer, but this is a way better solution that seems to be solid in a parametric design.
