How do you fix this issue? It worked before the 6/21/2015 update

Hi @Anonymous, thanks for letting us know about this.

Can you give us some more details about what behavior you're seeing? A screenshot would be helpful, too. Are you attempting to create a new drawing from the file dropdown, or from the canvas browser right-click menu? Is the program crashing for you, or are you getting an error message?

Thanks,

Timera

Hi @ehenryc,

Timera and I think this may be an issue impacting a small percentage of people on Windows machines, where registry entries are corrupted during the installation process.  If you are on Windows and the problem is as straightforward as drawings simply does not work / launch after the update, you may need to uninstall and reinstall Fusion to replace the registry entries.

We sincerely apologize for the issue (and heavy-handed fix).

Hi, I've experienced this problem as well, in the process of following the 'Basic Training' Drawings tutorial (the one with the Stanley blade utility knife).

Despite doing a clean reinstall (per https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fusion-360/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How...

the problem recurs.

"Fusion 360 Drawings cannot launch.  An installation error is preventing Fusion 360 Drawings from launching.  Please follow the uninstall information at the link below then reinstall in order to create a drawing.

How to uninstall Fusion

If you have reinstalled and are still encountering this message please contact support and we will respond promptly.  Closing this dialog will return you to your design."

Yikes...  I need to generate drawings from Fusion 360 as part of my work!

Hi Matt,

I can work with you to get you through this.  Please contact me at brent.espenship at autodesk.com .  If you are not confortable with doing the following, I can walk you through it.

If you are comfortable using the Windows registry editor, can you run regedit and navigate to the keys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\FusionDoc\20.0\FusionDoc-E050:409

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\FusionDoc\R21.0\FusionDoc-0050:409

In both cases, we will need to know what the values and sub-keys are.  This thread is for an issue that was specific to our June release, and could result from an incomplete installation.  Since we deployed an update a few days ago, that could be the culprit.  Either way, we'll work with you until you are back up and running as expected.

@Anonymous, @Anonymous, there were some changes made related with registry values for Drawing. Could you try delete the registry item and try create a new drawing to verify whether it works? Thanks!

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\FusionDoc

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\FusionDoc (please also delete this if have, it was from very old Fusion build, should haven't this)

Hi bespenship &

There's no problem with Drawings where I'm sitting now, for what it's worth.

I'll reply with some results if and when I can try the solutions out on the original workstation.

Have to bump up this tread, it is happening on all my 3 workstations after the last November update.

Already checked - there is no FusionDoc subfolder in both suggested registry locations.

Also reinstalled Fusion, following the guide for complete uninstall.

Hi kiril,

Sorry to hear you're having a problem with drawings.  So drawings was working fine for you before the update and now is not on any of your systems?  Can you please try this and let me know if it addresses the problem?

1. Close Fusion

2. In Windows Explorer go to C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ (may need to turn on hidden files/folders to see it)

3.  Delete the FusDoc folder - Note: If there are any other folders with similar name, FusDoc 2016 or similar, please delete as well (please make a note of whether these exist or not, I'm curious)

4.  Re-launch Fusion and try to create a drawing.

Please let me know if that does it for you.

Thanks,
Chris

Yes, Drawing worked well before the last update.

Deleted the suggested folder, created absolutely new file, but the problem still exist.

"Fusion 360 Drawings cannot launch

An installation issue is preventing Fusion 360 Drawings from launching.

Please follow the uninstall information at the link bellow and then reinstall

in order to create a drawing.

After i close this dialog box, a Drawings interface glitches (shows for like half a second) and returns to Model interface.

Hi Kiril,

OK, I was hoping that would do it.  Can you please provide a little more information.

1.  Launch Fusion > Click the ? in the upper right corner > About.

We had an update last night, can you confirm the version (under the logo) is 2.0.2455.  If this is your first launch since last night you will need to let the update go, then close/restart Fusion

2.  Provided the version is 2.0.2455 can you click "Diagnostic Log Files" in that same ? menu and send me (christopher.miller@autodesk.com) that file.

It is really surprising that this is happening on more than one system - a problem like this typically points to an install gone bad, but that would likely be a one off situation.  What OS are the 3 systems?  Is there any type of anti-virus software running?  Any other recent changes to these systems (new software, updates, etc.)?

Thanks,
Chris

Same after today's update.

Sending diagnostic logs.

All machines are with Windows7 Ultimate x64, with MS Essential as antivirus software and AutoCAD 2014.

Also noticed something strange - after the Fusion error message, there are also two AutoCAD error reporting windowses "A software problem caused AutoCADto close unexpectedly".

There is no open AutoCad when this is happening.

Or maybe AutoCad and Fusion use common modules?

Hi Vintorez2012,

Can you please try this and let me know if it fixes the problem?  Assuming you are on Windows:

  1. Close all Fusion instances
  2. Delete the folder: C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\FusDoc  (NOTE: you may need to turn on hidden files/folders to see this)
  3. Relaunch and try again.

Sorry for any inconvenience.  We have a bug logged for this and are currently investigating why some users are affected by this.  In the meantime this workaround should fix the problem, if it doesn't please let me know.

Thanks,
Chris

Hello... I did almost every recommendation in the Forum, as well as in the "Uninstall Directions" and nothing worked. Every recommendation was done separately and tried, one by one, with no working result.

What it worked was the last post Chris, deleting the FusDoc folder.

With Fusion 360 closed, I deleted the FusDoc folder as specified and Drawings worked again. Even the already created drawings.

Hope this info works to get the solution faster for future Readers.

Hi hecortiz,

Yes, apologies for the inconvenience this caused and glad to hear you are back up and running.

We are working on the fix, in the meantime we pinned this How to fix "Fusion 360 Drawings cannot launch" error post to the top of the forum and have also included a link to these instructions in the Uninstall section of the Readme (which is where the "How to uninstall Fusion 360" link in the error message takes you).

Hopefully this does help anyone else hitting this avoid the extra steps.  This one snuck up on us, but we're working on it.

Thanks,

Chris
