Today, I bring you a simple yet effective tip for saving time when opening your Revit models. Often overlooked, this warning can significantly speed up your design workflow, especially when working with large projects and sites that require multiple linked models.

This Model Upgrade dialog in Revit appears when opening a project that contains a linked model saved in an older Revit version. In this case, the linked file was created in Revit 2024 but is being opened in Revit 2025.
- Temporary Upgrade: The linked model is temporarily upgraded to Revit 2025 for the current session. However, the changes are not saved to the original linked file.
- Repeating the Upgrade: Each time you open the host model, Revit will re-upgrade the linked model, which can slow down file opening and performance.
- Solution: Open the linked model separately in Revit 2025, allow it to upgrade, then save it in the new version. This prevents the repeated upgrade process and improves workflow efficiency.
From my personal experience working with large projects, you have no idea how important this is and the difference it makes in a fast-paced environment. When deadlines are tight, and we need to quickly open and deliver projects, every second counts. Avoiding unnecessary delays—like repeated model upgrades—can significantly streamline your workflow, improve efficiency, and help you stay on schedule without compromising quality.
