Why does looking at views in the project matter? Every view that you have has to update when you touch things from another view. Especially if they are open. It is too easy to drop a section marker into a project to check on something. What about the use of 3D views and Camera views? Don’t we just love those also. View depth for elevations and sections make a difference in what get regenerated in those views, even if you can’t see something.
If you do a Window Tile and your screen presents you with postage stamps size views, you have too many views open. You should not only close views when you are not needing to be in them, but you should also remove any views not being used in a project. A View schedule can certainly help you with that.
Schedules give information about the Revit families of all types. A View List can present information on views such as:
- View Name
- View Template
- Discipline
- Title on Sheet
- Sub-Discipline
- Detail Level
- Family
- Type
- Associated Level
- Phase
- Sheet Number
- Sheet Name
You can clean up your views at any time but once your project has moved along and sheets are being set up it is a really good idea to clean up views. A view template can help with what views have been placed on sheets to help eliminate others not on sheets. How about looking through all the 3D Views with someone’s name on them, doubt they are making in onto a sheet. Sections and elevations can be perused for “check” versions someone has created. Don’t forget any view with “Copy 1” or “Copy 2” or other numbers at the end of it. Doubtful they have been used or if they have, they certainly need renaming. Find the views you wish to remove in the browser, right-click, Delete and help make the health of your project better.
If you are wanting to learn more about schedules there is a Community Conversation coming up where I will dlve into more schedules with tricks to show missing information, ways the add a letter before your item number such as on an electrical schedule using E101 for item 101 electrical. There are just a few more Hints & Hacks that I have up my sleeve.
