Revit Fundanmentals - Unable to load Keynote data

Keynote in Revit is for assigning a MasterFormat code to the Keynote type parameter of model elements or Materials Identity.

Sometimes this file can become disassociated from the model or material, resulting in this pop-up when attempting to map this parameter.

If you find yourself in this situation (which is likely if you are reading this), follow these few simple steps and get back on track.

In a Family

1. Go to the Manage tab on the Ribbon

2. Expand the Additional Settings tool in the Settings panel.

In a Project

1. Go to Annotate tab on the Ribbon.

2. Expand Keynote, which can be located in the Tag panel

3. Select Keynoting Settings

Selecting Keynoting Settings will open the Keynoting Settings window.

4. In the Keynoting Settings window, select Browse

5. Locate the default (or custom) "RevitKeynotes.txt," generally found in the ProgramData folder for your version of Revit.

Notes:

  1. For <Version>, this depends on which version of Revit you are working from
  2. For <Region/Generic>, This depends on which templates and formats you selected to download with your program. 
  3. For most users, setting your path to "At library location" will suffice

C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT <Version>\Libraries\<Region/Generic>\
