Revit CAD Standards: Why talk about them?

I recently changed from one firm to another.  A change like that doesn't only bring a new group of co-workers, desks, and scenery but also new standards/ways to do things.  At my old firm, I was one of those who inherited the standard's responsibilities and helped evolve them from AutoCAD to Revit. After making the change, I had to learn new standards and processes.   This made me think about Why we have standards, and I looked back at the class I taught in 2018 at Autodesk University.

I have found myself continuously rereading the following paragraph:

What’s the point of Revit Standards? Nobody interprets them the same, everybody breaks them, and apparently, nobody can enforce them. Creating effective standards requires more than technical knowledge. It requires building consensus on the big picture without stomping on individualism and unique project requirements.

Those words mean more now than they did when I wrote them four years ago.  As I embark on my work journey and continue to help with firm standards and client/account program standards, I will take you along to help shed insight on creating, enforcing, and teaching standards related to Revit and the ACC.
