XList - Long Character Limit

XList - Long Character Limit

Currently, xlist will not show the layer if the xref title is too long. This means instead of  quickly typing "xlist" and getting the needed layer information, nothing shows except for the name of the xref. This is less than optimal.

If the xlist pop up window was larger with a larger character limit this issue could be easily resolved.

I wish they'd simply 'word wrap' the alert dialog contents.

Yes, this important. Usually have to resort to ncopy just figure it out and then have to delete the layer from my current dwg, pretty annoying.

Until it's fixed you could use the lisp:

(defun c:xlname (/ xlay)
(setq xlay (cdr (assoc 8 (entget(car (nentsel "\nPick object to display it's layer name: "))))))
(alert (strcat "The object" "'s" " layer is '" xlay "'"))
(princ)
)

A friend forwarded me his solution to edit the settings file for the dialog box and wanted to share for the next person 😄

Here is how to change the width of the xlist dialogue box:

  1. Go to the following folder: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2022\Express
  2. Open the file XLIST.DCL with a text editor.
  3. Look for instances of the following setting
    • : text {
      key = “sLayer”;
      width = 30;
      }
  4. In each instance of the setting, change the width value to something bigger. I use 150 myself. e.g.:
    • : text {
      key = “sLayer”;
      width = 150;
      }
    • Note that there are three instances of this setting in the file.
