Pasting Surfaces Error

I'm having difficulty pasting a surface to another in a drawing. I have a surface created from topography and a surface created from a corridor. I'd like to paste the surface created by the corridor onto the existing surface created by the topo because the road (corridor) is now existing. I can paste the topo into the corridor, but not the other way around.

"I can paste the topo into the corridor, but not the other way around."
So what happens when you try? Any error messages?

I assume you are using the surface edit menu to paste, not windows paste. Depending on the type/source (dref, xref, etc.) of a surface you may not be able to past in to it. If the topo surface is targeted by the corridor you don't want to paste them together (a program loop at best). I recommend creating a new surface and pasting the topo and the corridor surfaces in to it with the topo first, then the corridor surface to overwrite in congruent areas.

If you are trying to copy a surface from one drawing to another drawing, I recommend using a data shortcut (dref).
