Data referenced pipe network has different style or part list than source drawing in Civil 3D

Hi

I'm trying to figure out why when i create a reference in the host file for a pipe network it always assign "None" for the part list or styles ?

I noticed this article :

But is there anything else that can cause this that someone has experienced ?

Hi, I would double check what you have set as defaults within your template by checking the Toolspace > Settings tab > Pipe Network > Edit Feature Settings.  You can set all of the defaults such as structure/pipe styles, parts list, label styles etc.:

I find using the Reference Template works we'll for this.
Link the master drawing into a blank drawing then set the PartsList & labelstyles to be shared before linking the Dref.

The created reference should then retain the styles as per the list.

I'm not a fan of Drefs now (for plan production) since I used them recently, it seems to rebuild all the parts and reset the styles and layers each time for anything which has changed and sometimes which hasn't.

You also cannot seem to redefign the layer setting once a Dref is in the drawing it always defaults back to the very original as set up.

I think especially where styles have been swapped out (from the Default in partslist) for a different style, the Dref should (if the style exists in the drawing) retain the masters style.

It would also be very helpful if the Dref could (as a switch) maintain the masters layering.

I often create a network and subdivide pipes and chambers to different layers for plotting and have had to keep changing the layers of the Dref'd pipework accordingly.

Keep in mind when you data reference something you are getting the data not the styles.  With a pipe network, the parts list controls the association between Structure Name and Style.  Usually I recommend using the same style in your drawing you used when creating the pipe network, then you get the same appearance.  

You mention having to do several things to the layers during production, a well designed part list can help make that easier for you.

Il'l do some testing in the next weeks - I've got to update the source drawings noticed they're made with the old templates so going to update everything and make sur things are synced properly before screaming it's not working.

Will keep you posted for sure with the conclusion/solution if any !

Sure you know but just in case.  Make sure if you use the import styles and settings command from the manage tab, to check the 'import settings' box.  There is so much stored in the settings including the critical part list definitions.  

I just had an issue with parts in a part list stopped working.  I created a new part list which showed somehow my part list had an issue.  I replaced the concrete pipes (which were having the issue), and recreated that portion of the part list.

This type of thing seems to happen enough that we have a help doc in our system to fix the 'parts list glitch'

So we've tryed doing the template reference and that didn't work.
I really think there's nothing we can do that i can set already by default what's in the source file unfortunatly ... 

And going through the Edit parameters of the Network doesn't give any method to select the differents part list from the master file. It only gives one static choice.

Bump 

We've noticed that creating a reference of a network and associating it with the same part list doesn't bring the correct parts from the source to the referenced file

The thing is we're using 2 identifical templates but one's a copy of the other one

The source one has different visual differences compared to the one used for drafting production (Showing 1 line for drafting for pipes VS showing external outter lines of pipes)

Is it possible that maybe the drafting template has the same part list but with not the same GUID of each part list maybe ?

Still trying to figure out why things don't get associated correctly when referencing

I've just tried doing it with the original template that comes with C3D and it does work.

Try to find out what makes it not work when changing template ...
