Create Data Shortcut of Pipe Network

Anonymous

Hello all,

I want to create a data shortcut for a pipe network so I can make the network "Active" in my current dwg file.  The pipe network I want to make active is in a separate file, so how can I do this?

-It seems that I already have a data shortcut from a surface file, and I can't figure out how to create the data shortcut for the pipe file, then copy it into the active file.

Thanks,

Open the drawing with the pipes in it.
Go to Ribbon > Manage > Create Data Shortcuts (big button on the left)
This is assuming that you have already set your working folder and shortcuts folder correctly for this project.

I see.  When a data shortcut is created in a file you set the working directory and it creates a folder with the xml files in it.  So, we're opening the new file that we want to use, and saving it as an xml file in the same folder that was created previously by the program when we initiated the first data shortcut.

Is that what we're doing?

I types manage in the command line and got this....please see the attachment.  From here, not sure how to operate this "Link to a Data Shortcut" dialog box.  -Am I on the right track?

I've never seen that box before.

Here's what I was talking about:

Well, I couldn't find the "Manage" in the ribbon.  However, I did create the data shortcut in the file and it added an XML file in the working folder for data shortcuts.  I was able to add that in the file I want to work in, so the problem in solved now!

-In the pipe file I went to Toolspace - Data Shortcuts (Right Click) - Create Data Shortcuts.

Then I checked the working directory folder and that created the XML file in the pipe network folder, then went to my active file and it's in my data shortcuts tab in the prospector.

Thank you

Sorry, just saw your last post.
So, I'm not sure. I've only used up to 2013. Maybe they changed it in the newer versions. What release are you working in?

O.k., I'm working in 2015.  I figured you were in a previous version.  However, from what you said in you first message I was able to figure out what to do.  Thank you again!

Cool, glad you found it.
I just tested in 2011 doing it the way you said, and it does activate the same command. I wonder where they hid the buttons though... anyone who knows?
