I usualy don't use daylight at all, i just "slope to surface" and presto 🙂
My 5 cents is that the daylight just hits the first surface it encounters and stops, that's the only explanation for "switching" targets. Unless you have regions split just there at that point.
Let's hope someone who uses those a bit more comes up with an answer..
