C3D Labels not showing unless I REGEN

I'm running 2023. I noticed right away that the C3D labels don't show unless I do a REGEN. It only happens through the paper space viewport, not in model space.

@Cadguru42 Definitely we are listening. This seems a different issue. Was not able to reproduce it.

Could you please help to provide more information on this one?

 1. Does this happen to every drawing?

 2. Is this a legacy issue or regression issue in Civil 3D 2023.2?

3.  could you please help to record a screen cast for the issue?

Thanks

We're already done with that project and I no longer have access to those drawings. It was weeks ago.

  1. I don't know if it happened in every drawing as I was only working in one drawing that had C3D labels and layouts. This was happening to my alignment labels as I was shifting the location within the viewport. It's what led me to looking up what was going on and seeing this new unwanted "feature" turned on by default that was causing labels to disappear unless I manually regen.
  2. It only happened once I installed the 2023.2 update. Prior to that I never had issues with labels disappearing.
  3. I no longer have access to the project files, so I can't make a video of it happening.

After reading some forum posts with people complaining about this "feature", I turned off the variable as well as the status bar icon for it and I was still forced to do a manual regen in order to get my alignment labels to show up. I have not used C3D 2023 again as I've started using 2024 as well as an older project where we're using C3D 2022 and ProjectWise.

Thanks @Cadguru42 for the info.

We have fixed some issues in 2024 release. if you came across this issue again, Let us know. we definitely need to fix this issue to make the feature more useful.

This DIDN"T fix my regen issue. This is silly we have this type of issue with a brand new release. nobody does QC or Beta testing these new releases?

I continued to have the issue, what fixed mine was... I changed my Hardware Acceleration from "Advanced" to "Intermediate". (2D Display Settings to be Intermediate Mode) 👍

@londal Glad to learn that you have found the reason.

Are you using 2024?

Thanks

...also on by default, apparently, in C3D 2024. Thanks for the post, helped us greatly.

@FrankHuang, I am using C3D 2024 and with AECCVIEWPORTOPT 'on' I still have the disappearing label issue.  Sometimes all the labels disappear and sometimes only half of them in the same viewport disappear.  I have to manually regen the viewport to see them again.  So it doesn't look like 2024 was fixed.  I instead set AECCVIEWPORTOPT to off and AECCLABELOPTFLAGS to 1 and it seems to work fine now.  Maybe you all could just remove these variables that break the working versions.  Never had this issue in 2022.

Attached is a video of the missing labels and having to do a regen in the viewport to see them.

I'm finally back into a project with an alignment and labels. I'm using 2024.0.1 and have to constantly do a REGENALL multiple times just to get labels to show up.

Cadguru42_0-1702674194236.png

I know there's a 2024.2 update, but it had issues when released I won't install it until it's more widely available.

This happens with alignment station-offset labels as well as the station label group. I have to zoom to the paper extents and do a REGENALL in order to get them to show up. Sometimes that doesn't work and I have to switch to model space then back to paperspace just to see my labels. AECCVIEWPORTOPT=0 and the status bar icon are turned off and it still happens.

There's also a problem with the alignment stationing labels looking different. The stationing labels that are on the curves are more bold & larger than the tangents. It's the same station label group, so why are they different?

Cadguru42_1-1702674424020.png

When I opened the label editor I noticed that the font it was using wasn't what the text style is set to use. C3D 2024 seems to always have an overridden text style that cannot be removed even when right-clicking and selecting "Remove Formatting?"

Cadguru42_2-1702675215278.png

When I changed the font here to be the same as the text style of "RomanS" that seems to have fixed the different size text and font for the curves. But why did it happen in the first place? Even the color aspect here doesn't seem to work properly. Why does it still show "\C256;" before the contents of the label even though I've hit "Remove Formatting" multiple times? What is color C256 anyway? I think C3D's label system is using a true color instead of the index colors even though the dialog is showing index colors.

This entire new "feature" has been a disaster that hurts productivity. Something's been broken with the label editor for a few versions and it hasn't been fixed.

"set AECCVIEWPORTOPT to OFF and AECCLABELOPTFLAGS to 1"
Excellent, thank you - in our case, the issue was the AECCLABELOPTFLAGS Variable, which was set to 0. Once we changed that to 1, it fixed the issue.

FYI, this still is an issue even with C3D 2025. I had to turn AECCVIEWPORTOPT=0 and turn off the two status bar icons. This is the only way that labels would show up in my viewports while in layout. They would plot fine, but could not be seen while in the layout.
