C3D 2015 Geolocation unknow commands

I know we've beat this topic to death but my geolocation features stopped working.  I cannot get it to appear on the ribbon or execute any geolocation commands. I am out of ideas.  Should I just reinstall the program?

@BushW has edited your subject line for clarity: Geolocation unknow commands

Mike,

Did you round up the usual suspects, like assigning a coordinate system?

Try a Reset before you do a complete re-install.

Hi Dave. I am unable to execute any geolocation commands. I’ll try the reset and let you know the results Monday. Thanks. We’re upgrading soon and I have county-wide aerial photography until then. Actually, it’s more current but not as convenient.

I dont mean to sound insulting, but have you assigned a coordinate system to the drawing? If you have no coordinate system assigned to the drawing, the Geolocation toolbar does not appear in the Ribbon.

MAPCSASSIGN

Or, go to drawing settings and pick one from the drop down list.

Hope that helps?

Thanks, Owen, but my coordinate system is set.  My geolcation disappeared in mid-project.  I have some suspicions (IT!) but not enough information to start throwing rocks.  We're finalizing details on our next upgrade so until then I can get by with what I've got.

Happy Monday, Dave.  Thanks for the tip but I decided to wait for our upgrade.  As I mentioned, I have recent SID files of the entire county as a safety net.  Are you a baseball fan?  What a series!

Hi Mike,

Those SIDs are probably better resolution anyway.

So when you say Geolocation Commands, do you mean _GEOMAP? Did you try typing it on the Command Line? Or do you mean _GEOGRAPHICLOCATION?

Happy Tuesday, Dave

Both.  I get "unknown command".  The SIDs are ok but they don't adjust to my scale factors and they certainly aren't as convenient.  I rarely plot images in my plans anyway.  Primarily I use them as a throw down site visit.  Nothing beats a boots-on-the-ground walk but the Geo stuff helps.  On a related topic, we're starting a drone program.  We've got some big ideas around here.  It will be interesting how well they get executed.

By the way,  I thought 2015 was the first version to have a reset specifically for Civil 3D.  Mine only shows a reset for AutoCAD.  I wonder if it's an OS thing?  I'm on Windows 10.

Mike,

2015. Something from my hazy memory remembers that the Geolocation Tab had to be added in that year through the CUI. There was a wrinkle involved in  that you had to pull the Geolocation Tab from "Open C3D as AutoCAD". I'll nose around.

OK, so you're running 2015 and you lost the Geo Commands mid-project. Anything else happen about that time? Upgrades or Service Packs installed?

Here's something to check:

Mike,

I think I found the blogpost I remembered:

https://www.ideateinc.com/blog/2014/04/accessing-enhanced-geolocation-features

I know you said you had the Geolocation Tab at one time, but maybe something happened and it got lost.

Hello @mnorton

I'm just checking in to see if you need more help with this. Did the replies of @Pointdump provided work for you?

If so, please hit the ‘Accept as Solution’ button if/when relevant so, that others can more easily benefit from the information and thank you for doing so.

Best Regards,

Wendell

Perhaps the "Accept as Solution" button should be renamed to "Just Ducky"

Caruso,

Is that joke for me?  Do you know the story behind me saying "Just ducky"?

Thanks, Dave.  I'll go through these Monday when I'm back in the office.  I'm not Oil & Gas anymore and comp time is a lousy incentive to work weekends.

Yes it was. I was Softdesk/Autodesk phone support for a few years. Jon G. and I used to field your tech calls.

Holy crap! That was a LONG time ago!  I'm sorry I didn't recognize your name.  There were days I couldn't have made it without you.  It was an exciting time. Is Jon still around?  I see that White Mountain tag on your signature.  Is that your company? DBA? Money bush? What's up?

I'm still doing dirt.  It never occurred to me to do anything else.  Everybody's got to be good at something.  I've been pretty much a gypsy for awhile and did some part time Civil 3D stuff for the University of Houston for a few years.  I haven't heard much from them lately. I think they switched to online training and didn't have the heart to tell me.  Online instructors are probably easier to get along with.  It's hard to find people dedicated to a craft these days and I don't have much patience for slackers.

Let me know what you're doing.  We may have a lot in common.  I'm the CAD Production Manager for Harris County and trying to implement some "new" stuff.  I'm pushing InfraWorks as our main communication tool with the county precincts; starting up a drone program; rewriting the county CAD standards; and still writing training manuals.  In fact, I think I'll post something tonight on my website on model-based design.  I've neglected my site for awhile and all this reminiscing has put me in the mood!
