Displaying Streamlines - Post Processing

Hi,

I reviewed all of the tutorials, and I still cannot figure out how to post-process visual streamlines (e.g., velocity streamlines) for my model.  I am using the 2013 edition.  Thank you.

Hi,

Perhaps, you can go to the wikihelp page and search for traces.  Basically, you will need to create a results plane and put seed points for your particle traces.

Regards

Ilyas

Is it possible to draw streamline in surface model or 2D models through trace or something?

Hi,

The above post is your answer regarding streamlines.

Although, you are showing vectors rather than streamlines. These are generated from a cut-plane, there's a handy page in the help here.

Kind regards,

Jon

Thanks for your reply but you can see in image i posted earlier that i am working on a 2D model and when i click on planes , trace option is off. I want to know any option for tracing streamline (not vectors) for 2D models.

Ah I see, understood.
In that case no, unfortunately there is no option for these in 2D, they are available only for 3D analyses.

Best regards,
Jon

Could I suggest you pop a request into our Idea Station here?
http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/simulation-cfd-ideastation/idb-p/82

This way we can all vote on it and the developers will know it has been requested 🙂

Thanks!
Jon

A way to show the streamlines for a 2D model is to

  1. Before solving, select stream function as a result from the results dialog box (from the solve widget)
  2. After solving, turn on the stream function fringe results
  3. Right click on the stream function results legend and turn on the contours

See attached image.

Hope this helps.streamlines_contours.PNG

Thanks a lot. This will fulfill my purpose but how did you get stream function option in global result. Is it available in 2013 version or higher version?
