Model Coordination Workflow with Updating Models

Model Coordination Workflow with Updating Models

Currently, when you create a Coordination Space and discover clashes, you cannot simply replace the model in BIM 360 cloud with an updated Revit model that an existing Coordination Space recognizes. An existing Coordination Space does not recognize an updated file which is a major flaw. Classic BIM 360 Glue gave you the ability to update a Model which then automatically updated Merged Models where users performed clash detection.

It appears files are being copied from Document Management to a new folder for Coordination Spaces. You can see this by deleting a model from DM and it still appears in Spaces.

The only workaround, not a solution, is to create a new Coordination Space after a Revit model in BIM 360 is updated. This is a problem if you ignore some clashes because BIM 360 does not remember ignored clashes between Spaces.

We need the ability to upload the Revit model in BIM 360 and have Model Coordination recognize the updated model in an existing Coordination Space.

I believe that to update the model in the coordination space you would just need to copy the new model version into the coordination folder.  This should then update the version being used in the clash detection and should remember the ignored clashes.

Thanks Jamie. I tried your suggestions multiple times last month and it didn't work. But today it did! Not sure what changed but it's working now as expected.

Hi All - I started reading a lot about this topic and especially about uploading Revit Models.

What are your recommendations since we cannot copy Models from Project Files to Plans or vice versa.

We have been using the Collaborate/Initiate from Revit to Plans in our workspace folder. No problems beside creating a detach model rename it or add a suffix so no confusion with the Project Files models.

Some people are using Desktop Connector but we could not. each time we got an error that the RVT file isnt a correct format Any help in this mean and the update workflow will e more than welcome

Thanks,

Kal

It is good sometimes to ask a question because I found the solution at my initial problem: being in the same group of folders to move/copy around Revit models. So I decided to detach our Revit Models from Project files initially rename them, re-initiate collaboration to Plans within our Coordination folders and created as suggested by many a "shared" folder that is becoming our MC workspace.  Now I am waiting for the clashes to refresh and start working with issues.
It is just cumbersome to use and the difficulty is to understand that you need to be in Plans after your design phases are over and behind you.

There's got to be a way to do this in a more automated fashion. Ideally it should update the coordination space every time you publish.

I finally after several hour of trial and error found a good way to get my models (5 or 6 of them at a time) initially I had 24 models ready but the system could not refresh and generate clashes for those many models. I created a new workspace with 5 models and voila that was it...Clashes.png

I would like to suggest to be able to customize the model naming - We have a strict convention per our BIM Project Execution Plans and I would rather get them following our convention then for example we banned the underscore from our standards and unfortunately the model names are adding a suffix of the initial model after an "_" non-sense!

How do you get updated versions of the models in there? That's what I'm trying to streamline.

Sometimes it seems that the models are updated with new publish in DM, sometimes it's not working and we need to create a new Coordination Space.  Which is combersome (issues being ignored are back again, all views have to be redefined, ...).

We need a button to UPDATE the models in Coordination Space

This should be as simple as highlighting all the models in a coordination space and having an update button.  This would pull the latest version from the originating location and update the clash matrix.  No downloading models to a local drive or activating/deactivating coordination spaces.  This is counter intuitive to everything that BIM 360 was built to do.  Please resolve this so that model coordination is actually feasible and we can break the Navisworks cycle as it uses static snapshots of models in time when applied to a large scale project and performance factors must be taken into consideration.

When will Autodesk be updating this major user comment in Model Coordination Module?

Any update on this issue? At the moment the Model Coordination is barely usable for the lack of inside Revit integration (Issues add-in not isolating or showing all of the elements forming the clash makes it useless). If updating is not integrated, this otherwise brilliant online clash platform is on the bench in favor of 3rd party tools such as BIM Collab and Revizto.

Do you still have to create a new coordination workspace for every updated published model?
