BIM360: Setting permissions on metadata level

BIM360: Setting permissions on metadata level

Current situation: Pre-defined permission levels like

  • view only
  • view + download
  • upload only
  • view + download + upload
  • view + download + upload + edit
  • folder control

can be assigned on folder level to specific user, roles or companies. E.g.

  • User A has:
    • "view + download" rights on folder A
    • "folder control" rights on folder B
  • Role B has
    • "view + download + upload" rights on folder C
    • "view + download + upload + edit" rights on folder D
  • Company C has
    • "view only" rights on folder E

Idea: At present the permission logic is static, solely based on a hierarchical folder structure. It would be desirable to additionally have a possibility to define certain permission rules based on the value of an attribute (classification).

Example
: Allow "view + download" rights for a specific role, if file attribute XYZ matches the value "confidential". In this way companies could perform proper file classification and handling across different Autodesk products (BIM360, Vault, ...)

I generally agree with this, and have given it a vote. But I feel that the underlying way that files are stored needs an overhaul.

I have just logged a new idea for updating the folder file storage method in favour of metadata file storage. Doing so should make way to achieving metadata permissions.
