When getting a catalog going for a Revit family I always go back to Excel. It is just easier. Then I have to save it out to a comma delimited file.
This is the file type I go to, not the other files with the same extension.
I then rename this csv file to a txt file. Go ahead and accept the error message you will get about it may not be usable, it will survive. I keep the Excel file along with the txt file because it is always easier to open the xls file without having to answer all those questions about opening a txt file. I consider the txt file a throw away file if I need to update the catalog.
So now I have three files, they have to have the same name to work together. This brings me to the tip I wanted to share today.
Select all three files, right click and hit Rename.
By renaming one it can rename all three files. We delineate catalog files with the _cat at the end of the file name and this is the fastest way to rename all three files.
