Improve Orthographic DWG

Hi

The time to update the Ortho View is very slow and tedious. If I need to update 50 Orthographic Drawing or more with many Ortho View in it it will take a lot of time (few days). There is no batch or background process. I need to do manual for each Ortho View. We would like to update all Orthographic Drawing from the whole Plant 3D Project!

It would be nice if I could select the Orthographic Drawing and run update all Ortho View.

This is implemented now. Orthographic are much faster in 2025 and also in the latest 2024 update

This has NOT been Implemented. The request is not about being faster in a single drawing. the request is "We would like to update all Orthographic Drawing from the whole Plant 3D Project!" We have been able to update all views in a single drawing for years - we need to be able to update all views in ALL drawings in a Project in one command not per drawing.

Again - that is not project wide. The request is for Project wide Update of Views.

I looked in to this further and Michael is correct - a Project Wide Update of Views has been added to 2025.1, however it does not resolve Annotations or BOM's especially on existing Projects.

First though - it does update every view in every drawing graphically exactly like it should which is a huge improvement. However, After Extensive Testing, these issues remain:

1. If you delete or modify components from a Model, the Annotation is often left behind in the Ortho or not updated correctly. One thing I noticed was any annotation from an OTB part usually got deleted or updated correctly, but any custom catalog parts that were annotated either did not get updated correctly or the annotation was left behind on deleted parts.

2. Existing BOM's from a previous version did not get updated. This includes any OTB parts that were deleted. They remained in the BOM even after a BOM Update. However, if you erased the BOM and put in a new 2025 BOM it would update correctly. Of course this also means all BOM Callouts would need to be placed once again.

3. Custom annotations that were not OTB also appeared to be modified to "Unspecified" even if the part remained, but the majority of time this was on parts that were deleted.

So it is definitely an improvement and an awesome first step, and my guess is it will work pretty good on new projects (although I did not test a new project with custom parts and annotations so I cannot speak definitively), but it requires a lot of checking and cleanup on existing projects so I do not recommend you use this feature in its current state on existing projects unless the project is in its early stages of development.

Thank you for the link Vicky, but please note the comment I made above on 11-05-2024. There are a lot of issues that need to be addressed and fixed with this new feature. Most notably in regards to Annotations and BOM's. While it's great to update all the views project wide, it generates a whole new set of checking and tasks to fix all the errors with the annotations and BOM's - and this alone causes not only a cost for drawing accuracy but high risk for financial loss due to errors and change orders from incorrect data in Construction Documents.

take a look at Cadworx's Ortho generator. Plant 3D does a lot of things better than Cadworx but their Ortho tools are far more advanced.
