Enhancement of P&ID mapping to Plant 3D

Enhancement of P&ID mapping to Plant 3D

Currently there's only P&ID linelist for Plant 3D link to P&ID and no equipment list. It would be great to have a P&ID Equipment list, and the command when selecting the Equipment in Plant 3D model then jump to the mapping P&ID drawing automatically. Thank you.

Not putting this idea down at all, it has been on my list for several years now to have a tighter link between the P&IDs and the model.  That being said, beyond just verifying that the equipment in the P&ID is indeed modeled, what data would you like to see mapped?  Personally I would like to see much of the data put into P&IDs and then linked/updatable, not just a one time push over or validation.  I am interested to see what others might get out of this as well.

Status changed to: Implemented

A new enhanced P&ID modeler has been implemented in AutoCAD Plant 3D 2025 RTM. Not only Equipment but also other associated components are included in the linelist. See more details in the What's New page:

Hi @jghamilton58

Would you please try the 2025 release and let us know your further feedback?

It would be great if you could post seperate ideas for further requirements.

I will most certainly look heavily into this. The company I am now with
does not use Plant 3d, we use Revit. Still I have spent so much time
developing Plant 3d I will definitely look into it. I am hopeful that a
much tighter integration between P&ID and Revit will also be forthcoming.

Currently there is no live link between the P&ID and 3D databases.  Once a P&ID is updated, you can not simply update the same component in 3D via a "synchronization" workflow.  Is this something that can be implemented in future releases?

When I call the PID line list on 3d workspace, Line Nos are show with question mark suffix. Do anybody know the error and how to solve this problem?

I have taken a short look at the P&ID enhancement for Plant 3d 2025.  I will admit it is a definite step forward but unfortunately still a ways off from what I feel it needs.  Not that what you have added was not needed, I believe it needs a much deeper step forward in terms of validation.

1.  First it seems that the logic is based around the P&ID being done and finished prior to modeling.  This is not always the case though it would be nice if it were.  There needs to be something for when a model is done first, and the P&ID is catching up.  This happens a lot these days with fast track projects.

2. I believe the link is still made using the tag number.  From previous usage that this can be a weak spot as sometimes the tag number especially on line segments can get confused.  There is also the potential issue that tags change sometimes during the project and this could be a linkage issue.  I would consider not linking by placing the object, which is great, but I would consider the option of picking objects from the P&ID Modeler and the model and using the part id in both cases to maintain the link, so you are truly linking objects.

3. Probably the biggest need is in the reports.  It seems it is all or nothing and you don't really get a printout report.  There are things link unlinked objects that just don't show up at all.  Not having any kind of report makes it very difficult to sift through the mismatches and find problems.  It is like finding a needle in a haystack.  I would consider and option to highlight objects that are linked, both in the model and in the P&ID.  Hight color by what is linked and consistent data as well as a different color where it is linked but has a data mismatch.  Without a report and or a highlighting option the whole thing is almost worthless because it is so impossible to easily trace down issues.

It probably seems like I want the world, and yeah that is probably right.  Oh, and all this needs to be included in Revit.  Truthfully I am not really using Plant 3d right now I am fully developing Revit for Spec Driven and Fabrication.
