Vic couplings on pipe end

I'm new to Plant 3D, made the switch from Autoplant about a week ago, so I'll be asking a lot of questions!

One issue that I have is adding a Vic coupling (clamp) to the end of a section of pipe. I have a 12" header with a 4" pipe stub-in that I want to place a coupling to the end of the stub-in. First, couplings, or clamps, do not show up in my spec palette, and then when I try adding pipe it automatically joins to the stub in without a coupling. How do I get a coupling onto the end of the stub-in?

I have a section of 12" pipe with a weld ell on one end and a grooved elbow on the other end. in the section of 12" pipe, I have a 4" "stub-in" pipe which I placed from the grooved spec on the 12" pipe.

What I want to do is place a coupling (clamp) on the end of the 4" nozzle and continue with a straight section of grooved pipe. There are no couplings shown in my spec palette to add to this nozzle and when I select "route pipe" and pick the end of the 4" nozzle, it extends the length of the nozzle, which I don't want to do. I'm able to place elbows, tees etc. on the 4" nozzle and a coupling is inserted, but not another section of pipe, it automatically joins it to the nozzle.

Good day. As to my comprehension to the matter, your victaulic coupling automatically placed on your fittings to pipe and fittings to fittings right? But if pipe to pipe, it doesn't automatically placed. Two things, open the Spec viewer if the Victaulics are placeable or just acts as a fastener, if it acts like a fastener therefore you must do something in the setup or in your catalog and Spec. If the victaulic clamp/coupling can be placed manually therefore that solves your problem, but as to your case, you said you cant locate the victaulic component in your pallet. I do not use pallet but then its just the same as the Spec viewer.

To solve your problem as a work around.

1. Fastener Clamps (victaulic) in the default connection settings requires (Groove to groove or Groove to Plain End, GRV - GRV or GRV - PL).

2. If you are the one who created your catalog and specs, you can create a new pipe that has GRV ends, or at least one end GRV so it could connect to your stub and other same connection.

3. Or you can customize a Victaulic Clamp/Coupling that you will manually place and control to your model.

4. Editting the connection settings is not ideal, but then can be done with caution.

Also there is a Victolic Content pack on the Autodesk Exchange that is completly free to download and use. Comes with specs and pretty much the complete line Vic offers. It is fully functional right out of the box. We took it and made some minor modifications to it to fit our purposes but we did not have to make any parts which is awesome.

thanks for the reply, I'll try changing the connection config file and if that does not work I'll have to create my own custom couplings.

Found the coupling under the Custom Parts section and it works the way I expected it to. I'm able to add a Vic coupling to the end of the pipe and then continue with another section of pipe.

hi i am facing the same problem i cannot put the vic coupling manually and i cannot make the software put it automatically for grooved end special pipe and the clamp under fastener under cannot be inserted to the model "the insertion button is not activated" please see the attached photo

so please can any one tell me how can i put it mannually or make the software do it automatically such as the downloaded specs becous i have copied the components to my spec but the connection donot happen and authentication error massage appears

knowing tha i donot want to use the custom part insertion becouse of the mismatch of itsdimension with my required Vic Style.

I'm having the exact same problem after downloading the Victaulic spec add on. I can place all components except for the clamps. The button is not highlighted to let me place it. Is there a way to fix this?
