2018 CAD having hard time to save with MEP content

Hello,

Can somebody help me please; I'm trying to figure out why is it taking 30 minutes to saving my working MEP drawing in 2018 CAD. I cleaned and purged my background before xref them into my working model, I already purge my model and delete AEC with the attached PDI command I found in forum, I tried AECTOCAD command also but none of these seems to work. As far for updates and computer specs I have everything up to date and requirement. I checked the Microsoft updates and they are up to date. We use Windows 10 for our Operating System.

Thank You.

Hi @Anonymous,

I moved this thread to the AutoCAD MEP forum so you might get better suggestions than from the Vanilla AutoCAD forum.

Please describe which version of AutoCAD or AutoCAD MEP you are using.

Can you attach a sample drawing to a post so I can see if I can duplicate the issue?

Hi @Anonymous,

I installed the Object Enabler for my AutoCAD 2018.   I then ran recover on your file and it found four errors.  Once the drawing was open I also ran Purge, and -Purge>Regapps as well as another Audit.  I was able to use exporttoautocad.  The drawing is still slow to save but not as bad as the amount of time you had indicated.

I have attached my version for you to examine.

Hello,

I tried this method already but it is only temporary fix to the problem; after several saves and populating the drawing the problem comes back again even after purging and cleaning them. My goal is to not waste more time waiting for 10-20 minutes saves time and redoing my xref, cleaning them over and over. Also I would like to know what causing it.

Thank You.

HI @Anonymous,

I don't have your xref files so I couldn't test this but I suggest that your model is so far from 0,0 that this might be causing some of the pain. (13000' from 0,0)

If you can send me your other files so I can try or try moving your model on your side I would like to see if this helps.

Hello,

Here is the file with all the Xref. I tried the zip file you cleaned up but after 15 minutes working with it; problem occurs again... Also the reason its far from 0,0 due to coordination purposes. We doing shared coordinate.

Thank You

HI @Anonymous,

Thank you for the additional files.

I opened each one and removed any Xref attachments that were not available.  Then I ran Audit, Purge, -PU>Regapps.  This seemed to help a bit.  The next step was to move all the geometry close to 0,0. What a difference that made!

So if this fixes the problem then the next step is to figure out how you are sharing this and with which software.

I have attached my version of the files so you can see the performance increase.

Hi @john.vellek

I used the model you cleaned and moved, tried to copy a few of the Pipe around and save them to our server to work on but confront with stuck on saving right away... I tried to overwrite save the same file in the extracted zip folder and still stuck at saving...

We are using Navis to coordinate but we do not want to input X,Y units and coordinates and angel every time we sent it out to Match other Trades Location. We just want to NWCOUT.

Hi @Anonymous,

Are you extracting the drawings before working on them? Have you tried working on them locally? Perhaps there is a network issue in play here.

I still suggest that the origin is a critical part of this performance issue.  If you adjust the insertion point for your work in the collaboration model then you shouldn't have to do it each time.

Here are some articles that are worth a read:

We have Plumber and Mechanical working on the same X and Y 13000' of 0,0 but only the Plumber has this saving issue. The mechanical pipe are more populated and bigger dwg but has 0 problem when it comes down to saving.

hello, @john.vellek

at this moment we are doing band aid progress by using AECTOACAD command and save them as different name as the original drawing for example (Original is PLUMBING-Level3.dwg with AECTOACAD we save the format down to 2013 and Retain all properties + Xref unbind, Set the Suffix with ACAD- so we ended up with ACAD-PLUMBING-Level3.dwg file.) It keep saving around 1-3 minutes per save and we just kept working with original drawing and saving + overwriting the other file with AECTOACAD command until the end of the day or when update are needed we will change the drawing name back to original. But I still would like to know why 2018 CAD keep freezing during save even after maintaining a clean process when modeling in it.

Thank You

Hi @Anonymous,

I feel the errors/slow save times are still tied to the geometry location in the files.  I understand you have to work through your existing project but I would be interested if you try this in your next project with the geometry located at 0,0. if the problem continues.
